Jeff Hess

Speaker Coach

Dr. Jeff Hess is currently the Dean of Communication at Florida State College at Jacksonville.  Dr. Hess joined Florida State College at Jacksonville in 1998 as a Professor of Speech Communication and the FSCJ Director of Forensics.  In his tenure as coach and Professor, Dr. Hess coached FSCJ students to the most public speaking and performance awards in the College’s history.  Jeff led the team to over 600 state, regional, and national awards including 3 readers theatre state championships, a regional phi rho pi team sweepstakes championship, a 2nd place team sweepstakes award at the national Phi Rho Pi forensics tournament, and national gold medal for FSCJ students in impromptu speaking, Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Informative Speaking.  In 2013, Dr. Hess was inducted into the Florida College System Activities Associa­tion Forensics Hall of Fame. 

Jeff has been teaching communication courses for 33 years.  As Dean of Communication, his department provides leadership and administrative support for a variety of college initiatives including the co-curricular activities – Beyond the Big Screen Series, The FSCJ Forensics Team, and The Experience Literary and Art Magazine.  He has previously served as host, speaker, and speech coach for TEDxFSCJ.
