Isaiah Oliver | Community Leader, Trust Weaver, Belonging Builder

What does it mean to lead authentically when trust in institutions is crumbling and communities are divided? For Isaiah Oliver, it means refusing to check his identity at the door. “I lead from Black, and I lead for all,” he says. “That isn’t a contradiction—it’s a commitment to widen the circle of belonging without erasing the truth of who I am.”

As President of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, Oliver stewards more than $700 million in charitable assets and $79 million in annual grantmaking—resources that help shape the region’s future. His perspective is rooted in Flint, Michigan, where he grew up Black and poor, raised by a single mother and supported by the very safety net he now sees fraying. Later, as CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, he led his hometown through the water crisis, proving that credibility comes not from neutrality but from living your values.

In his TEDx talk, Oliver makes the case that authentic leadership isn’t about power or position—it’s about the courage to lead with your whole self, bringing clarity, proximity, and moral presence to the systems and communities you serve.
