Carrie Moore, DBA | Career Contrarian

Modern career advice runs on one assumption: find your passion, turn it into a job, love what you do every day. Dr. Carrie Moore, who has spent years in HR watching what predicts whether someone thrives at work, argues that assumption has quietly become a burden for the majority of people who never feel “called” to their work. She’s seen both kinds of employees succeed. But the ones who don’t fit that mold often end up feeling like they’re doing something wrong, even when they’re doing it well. Dr. Moore argues that we’ve confused purpose with profession, creating unnecessary pressure for people who don’t feel called to what they do. A career can be meaningful without being a mission, and a stable, satisfying working life can be a destination in its own right — not a consolation prize for people still searching for their calling.
