A group of artists and friends came together with a common goal: to make a change in the Jacksonville cultural arts community. From this, The 5 & Dime, A Theatre Company, was born. It started with a simple question, “Why not us?” And so we offer this: why not YOU? At TEDxJacksonville 2013 The 5 & Dime performed an excerpt from ELEGIES FOR ANGELS, PUNKS AND RAGING QUEENS. Elegies For Angels, Punks and Raging Queens features songs and monologues inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Edgar Lee Masters’s Spoon River Anthology. Each of the monologues is written from the perspective of characters who’ve died from AIDS and the songs represent the feelings of friends and family members dealing with the loss. The performers are Kevin Roberts, Josh Waller, Olivia Chernyshev and Drew Brown. The show is directed by Lee Hamby with Musical direction by Laura Peden. Laura Peden is on piano and Micah Davis on guitar.
